Physical education contributes to the overall education of young people, by facilitating learning that leads to success, achievement and provides the opportunity for them to lead full and valuable lives, through engaging in purposeful physical activity.
We aim to provide a broad and balanced programme through which students will be taught to be physically active, developing co-ordination, control and body management. They will be involved in problem solving and communication with others, which can assist developing social attitudes and behaviour. Students will be encouraged to understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle through participation in and enjoyment of a variety of activities and environments.
Through the following, sports students will be taught to:
- Use a range of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition through team and individual games
- Develop their technique and improve their performance in other competitive sports
- Perform dances using advanced dance techniques in a range of dance styles and forms
- Take part in intellectual and physical challenges and be encouraged to work in a team, building on trust and developing skills to solve problems, either individually or as a group
- Analyse their performances compared to previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best
- Develop and understanding of fitness and anatomy and physiology terms in preparation for examination courses.

At KS4 we offer the Pearson BTEC Level 2 First Award for Sport (2018 specification). Assessed through external examinations and internal assignments the BTEC course provides a stepping-stone for those who which to pursue a sports related course at post-16 level. This award combines both practical and theoretical elements of examination PE. The PE department offers a range of competitive and recreational sporting activities during the enrichment sessions. These run on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays. As a College, we are currently working in partnership with the RFU both in and out of curriculum time. We enter teams into local leagues, National Competitions and into the regional cross-country and athletic events.
Enrichment activities are run for both participation and competition. There are over 18 sports participation clubs being offered over this academic year with competitive opportunites running alongside this. We also run an annual netball tour to Condover Hall in Shropshire.
